Puppy is so cute...he thinks I should be forgiven, don't you agree? ;)

I thought I would have more time on my hands...I really did. Turns out, moving to a new house and finishing off your semester at school, preparing for exams, handing in final projects, etc. can take up a lot of time.

Still, that's no excuse. I've let part of myself go by letting this blog go. Maybe it's the warm fire burning by my side, my adorable cat curled up at my feet, or the glow of good food and good company, but I resolve to write on here AT LEAST once a week...most likely more.

So THERE. You have my sincere promise. Exams are in one week, but NO EXCUSES. There is always time.

Two more days!

While you have all been dusting off your dancing shoes (does anyone actually have dancing shoes?) in preparation for the big 2010 celebration/begining of a new decade...I have been taking my life apart and putting it all into boxes. That's right, on December 30th 2009 we will be moving into a new house. If you have ever moved (this is the THIRD time for me FYI) you know that it is a GIANT hassle to say the least. I have never sneezed this much before from all the dust I'm turning up. And while I'm supposed to be relaxing on this my final Winter Break of high school, I am stuck at home packing and cleaning.

Please forgive me for not posting more often, but now I think you can understand part of the reason. :)

So don't abandon me yet, bloggers! I will be back to dish on all the fabulous things I have bought and aquired since we last talked soon enough...so stay tuned!

It's November! Therefore, we are officially allowed to talk about Christmas without being called crazy people (Although I started a count-down weeks ago, only to have someone remark: "It's not even Halloween!")!

And it's not even my birthday (November 24th!)

Preppy Profile: Lauren Conrad

I never thought I'd see the day when I gave two shakes of a lamb's tale about Lauren 'LC' Conrad. I really don't. I have never watched The Hills and I never will. It irks and confuses me...some of it is real, some of it is fake? Whatever. Not worth my time.

However, LC captured my interest with her new fashion line coming out. And as such, I have decided to feature some of her outfits captured by the paparazzi.

Her new self-titled line is coming out at Kohls, and while I wouldn't label it preppy, there are some nice feminine pieces that would be great for layering during fall. I can see some of it being sold at the Gap!

A Brand By Any Other Name...

As you may know, I have high aspirations to become a fashion designer. A professional one that is. I already design and sew and sketch, but in order to be a "real" designer I deem that I must have my own label at the very least!

I have been struggling for the LONGEST time to find a name. I had many ideas, but all the good names seem to be taken by web-design companies, etc. (I have "Googled" at least a hundred different names)!

Of course, a popular choice for designers is a self-named label, but I doubt that my name is unique or exotic-sounding enough to stand on it's own. I'm no Dior or Furstenberg!

That said, I have found that I will probably need to make combinations of words or just make one up to have a truly unique name.

My line's essence is one of polished femininity. It will be fresh with romantic and vintage twists on tailored classics. Think old-school Chanel-meets-Ralph Lauren with inspiration from the 50's and of course, the country-club group.

Some of my ideas were:

Academy
Alpha
Peach or Peachy (I grew up with peach orchards)
Legacy
Elite
Some combination?

Or to just adapt a "preppy" nickname for a label, such as:

Muffy Fashions
Mitsy Fashions
Missy Fashions

(with or without "Fashions" or "Designs" after)

If I was to post everything I have bought in the past month, I would probably run out of room in my blog. I know I'm supposed to be "saving" money since I quit my job at the coffee shop, but spending two weeks at my dads...what am I supposed to do? Answer: Starbucks and shopping. Every day. My two favourite things! That said, here are a few purchases I made last week and things that I have made (not including the stuff I bought on my trip to Montreal...or the mall last week...I know. I have a problem)

It is SO cute in person! I am going to make either a skirt, jacket, or a tailored dress a la Elle Woods! Plus I bought some wide black elastic, zipper, sew-on jewels, etc. for some more projects I am working on (will update when I'm done!)

Confessions of a Fashionista: Volume I

COOKING

I hate cooking. If it was up to me, every meal would be cereal or something pre-made and frozen. My culinary skills range from the microwave to the toaster. In fact, I have messed up with the microwave more than once, beleive it or not. Only recently have I mastered frying an egg (and that took a long time, mind you!). Everything I have ever cooked turns out inedible or I just give up because it's 8:00 and make myself some toast. I made pancakes once. A word to the wise; baking soda is NOT the same thing as baking powder. Salty and bitter pancakes...lesson learned. Yes, everything from burnt cookies, to brick-hard soy-chicken breasts, I have done.

So there. Now you know. Go ahead and judge me, but if you do, be careful what you eat! ;)

Gossip is Good for the Soul (and Wallet!)

Anna Sui for Target is inspired by the hit TV show Gossip Girl. The line depicts the 4 distinct styles of the 4 main (female) characters: Blair, Serena, Jenny, and Vanessa. Lovers of the the show, fashion, and Target will be thrilled by this new collection slated to hit 250 select Target stores and Target.com from September 13th through October 17th...so be ready to pounce, fashionistas! Living in Canada, I am a bit miffed that we don't have Target here (honestly, how dumb is that?) but perhaps I can order online and get it forwarded to my address in Ontario somehow (I think there is a website that will do this?). Nevertheless, this is something to be excited about, for Gossip Girl caused such a stir in the teenage fashion world when it aired last year.

Here are some of the outfits from the Lookbook:

Blair

Unsurprisingly, the Blair collection is my favourite. I admired her romantic feminine-meets classic prep-school look, and you can clearly see the influence in Anna Sui's designs:

This is a romantic twist on the LBD, with blue underlying and black lace detailing with a black satin bow and classic cut.

City chic shirt-dress with a peterpan collar, dainty pattern, and slight bell sleeves. Of course it's cinched at the waist for a feminine silhouette.

This is my favourite dress. Very Blair indeed! Romantic white lace deters from being too grandma's doily with it's mini length and curve-hugging cut. Don't forget the velvet bow lace bib! Wear with bare legs or sheer white tights and ballet flats like the model shown.

A very classy shift with a vintage print and slight A-line flatters almost all body shapes and shows off delicate shoulders and miles of leg!

Don't forget the darker side of Blair! Semi-sheer in all the right places is seductive and classy at the same time; only something Blair-fashionistas can pull off!

Serena

Laid back cool with menswear inspired pieces and a little tough-chick, but always clearly feminine.

Buisness wear? Take that! I am loving the shrunken vest and slightly equestrian vibe I am getting...plus the bows don't make it bad either...

I'm not a fan of the potato-sack look or the drop-waist, but hey, if you can pull it off!

This is my favourite piece from Serena (and maybe even the whole collection!). Something very classic and still modern about it: totally me!

I myself don't like the spikes on the neckline, but it is a unique design feature and makes the dress look much more high-end and designer.

Good girl gone bad?

Jenny

This looks more Jenny: Part Two, when she cut her hair and started wearing way too much eye makeup. Personally, I think less is more and find her looks a little too Gothic for my taste. Individually, some of the pieces are cute though.

The cardigan looks more DIY than designer. I love ankle-boots though!

This dress is quite nice

Vanessa

I don't know a whole lot about this character (I've only seen a few episodes) but quite frankly, her looks for this collection were pretty bad. All in all, the outfits remind me of a 70's living room with orange shag carpet (you know, the kind everyone tore out in the 80's).

I like the riding boots. That is all. A little too bohemian for my taste.

These boots are nice as well.

I do like this skirt! Looks like a nice tweed-like herringbone or houndstooth pattern (too far away to tell) in a natural palette that would be great for fall (as long as it isn't paired with too much orange like as seen here.
That puffer-vest is atrocious! And the hippie dress should be ashamed of itself! (sorry to be so negative :P)

Overall though, looking forward to this coming into stores (especially if they include the accessories as well!)

I was just looking under my "Edit Posts" file and found something quite disturbing. Turns out, if you have started a post and never got around to finishing it or forgot that it was ever there, it goes under "Draft", yet still remains in the count of number of blog posts.

Well, if you haven't caught on yet; this means that my so called "100th Post" was not, in fact, my 100th published post. It was only my 90-somethingth. I am going to pretend this whole little embarrassment never happened, and, apart from deleting the old never-posted drafts, I am going to disregard this. I stand-by my post. I used to have another blog anyway, so I no-doubt have published at least 100 posts at sometime or another. There. That's all I have to say about that!

Please excuse my mix-up! I feel I have deceived you all, but that was not the intention!

Let's all just agree to turn a blind eye on this one, shall we?

I got this dress last week and wore it today...I don't like that it's American Eagle, so I'll probably see other people in it, but it's like it was MADE FOR ME. I just HAD TO HAVE IT. It is perfect. I have way too many navy striped things now though...so much nautical goodness in my closet! I can't be stopped!! I guess that is my go-to look for summer though, so it's OK...right?

The model looks quite irked, doesn't she? I noticed she is kind of scowling on a lot of the pictures! Huh.

I Have a Problem.

I honestly do. I promised myself I wouldn't buy anything until I got another job (update: I quit my coffee shop part-time job). Unfortunately, I am TERRIBLE at not spending money. I went to the mall and found soo many cute things that were perfect for me, but I restrained myself and didn't buy anything. Instead, I just sketched and made notes so I could go back and buy them when I at least had a job. Then there was this weekend. Bordom + amazing sales at the mall = 4 tank-tops and some adorable jeans. The shirts were such a deal though I would have been crazy to pass it up. And I always need new tanks to go under my polos, etc. And these were Silver jeans. Nuff said.

But other than that, I have done a good job.

Except for my online buys...Red Lacoste Polo and Juicy terry zip-up hoodie (but there are no Lacostes or Juicy Coutures nearby!). And then there was today: new umbrella. But that doesn't count because my old "new" umbrella turned out to be a piece of junk so I had to throw it out and two, it was only like $10.

Oh yeah, and when I bought new bras and panties a few weeks back. But that's it. Honestly.

Hi. I'm having a bad few days. So today I am abandoning all fashionisms for a rant post: MPPP style.

*DISCLAIMER* if you are easily offended by slight potty-mouth talk, please do not read the following rant.

Things That Piss** Me Off (**I warned you)/Rants:

Question: Why is that men will honk, whistle, and cat-call at you while you are walking down the side-walk from their cars, but never offer you a ride? (I'm not saying that I would take it, but it would be nice, I mean, sometimes I'm really tired and these shoes are killing me!)

Similarily, if you are more than 3 decades older than me, please keep your comments to yourself. Yes, I know I look good today, but it is not for you. If I seem less than pleased ("Hey honey, it was just a compliment!"), consider the fact that you are creepy beyond all means and it makes me more uncomfortable than flattered.

Can't there be a store that gives special deals (90% off, perhaps?) to people that come in often, even if they never buy anything because the prices are crazy.

What possesses someone to sit directly accross from you on a bus that is otherwise empty? This just lends to a very uncomfortable ride where I am left trying to avoid eye-contact with you (which is difficult, since I can see you staring at me from the corner of my eye). Plus, one can only read those advertisements so many times (Learn English, use protection, half-price on contacts...I GET IT!)

Where is it written in the book of etiquette that you can send someone an "unvitation" through facebook? Tacky, tacky behaviour. If there are too many people attending, cancel the whole party, or at least call me and tell me yourself.

Why is it that my "practical" shoes are the ones that gave me gigantic blisters???

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. (How many people missed this memo??) I don't appreciate drama.

Why don't my parents seem to trust me, even though I have all A's, no tattoos or weird piercings, don't do drugs, or anything really that a rebelious teenager would do? But nope, I'm a constant disappointment.

How am I irresponsible? Just because I forgot to put the dishes away? It seems I can't do anything right.

How can anyone morally charge almost $4.00 for a 12oz latte? It's just hotwater, and steamed milk run through some coffee.

I'm going to stop now. This actually helped, I feel a lot better now (course, it may just be the caffiene kicking in).

Ugh. You see, I'm not always the most mild-mannered prep. I just don't tend to let these things out most of the time. Sorry if I was a downer, I really am doing quite well.

My New Diet

Definitely not weight loss...more like weight gain...one dollar at a time that is...

That's right, I'm on a spending diet.

It all started with me getting my T4 or whatever it is that tells you how much you made last year. Then, I compared it to how much I have now. Plus what I've made this year, there is some room for improvement. Where did it all go?? I don't have bills, rent, or gas to pay for. Even my phone bill is covered by my dad. Hmm. Mystery? Maybe not. Turns out, that coffee you buy everyday, those magazines you buy every month (cover price, mind you, for some reason I'm too stupid to actually subscribe and save myself a bundle), make-up, clothes, energy drinks etc. really add up after a while. So I vowed to myself to better watch my spending.

Goals:

Save coffee money by getting up 10 minutes earlier to make my own (I did buy that nice thermos for that purpose, might as well make use of this "investment")
Eat packed lunch, opposed to throwing out unappetizing sandwich and buying lunch/snacks.
Get as much free stuff as possible. (Helping myself to raspberry tarts/Diet Cokes from the mini fridge at my Co-op)
Monitor mindless spending on things I don't really need.
Finally subscribe to the 10 magazines I buy every month anyway.

With these goals, I hope to better fill my bank account, and therefore my closet for this summer, and the future (student loans ugh I CAN wait for those).

Let's see how it's going now, shall we?

DAY ONE: Goal achieved! Not one penny spent!

DAY TWO: Coffee I made tastes bland in comparison to Starbucks but I down it anyway for the caffeine rush. Afternoon snack needed when stomach starts rumbling. No access to free food. One fudgesicle purchased from corner store ($2.00). Frozen snack tastes like frozen crap: freezer burn, ice caked on the outside, goopy=gross. Thrown in the bin. Medium coffee half french vanilla bought from Tim Horton's (about $2.00). Went to art supply store: bought nice new quality pencil crayons (about $29.00)...used gift card! Only ended up paying $4.50 or something.

Total: about $8.50

Screw it. This is t0o hard. Day two and I'm already failing. I give up.

Seven Things I Love

Polo shirts. Especially Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Lacoste (new pink one last weekend!) They are so classy looking and are basically my alternative to the t-shirt. Wear with dark-wash straight-leg jeans and moccs (pearls included, of course) or with classy-chic white pants, pumps, and a classic bag.

Chocolate. The darker, the better. Self explanitory.

Coffee. My fuel. The one thing that keeps me going. I am addicted. I am obsessed. Starbucks, Timmy's, Second Cup (vanilla lattes are a little bit of heaven!), or even the over-priced stuff in my caf.

Fashion Magazines. I would have so much more money if it wasn't for the fact that I buy at least 5 every month, and don't even have any subsriptions, which would save me sooo much.

Sewing and Design. What I want to spend my life doing.

Spring, so many pretty things coming out (flowers, bunnies, new preppy spring/summer collections!) Also a great time to break in those summer dresses (worn with a blazer and tights when the weather is mild)

Blogging. A chance to express who I am to the world...and post tons of pictures of totally cute things I've bought or am drooling over. Almost a form of retail therapy.

Sleep in until about 10:30
Drink coffee and eat granola bar.
Go online and proceed to watch episodes of Scrubs until Mega Video tells me I have watched long enough.
Take nap.
Eat lunch.
Work on cute summer dress I'm making *more on that later
Watch more Scrubs (new show obsession).
Work on dress some more.
Think about washing face/brushing teeth/changing out of pajamas.
Decide against all of the above.
Snack and more coffee.
Watch more Scrubs.

Eventually my mother came home from work and my sister dropped by for the evening. I was forced to then at least wash the dishes, wash my face, brush my teeth, and throw on some jeans and a polo.

I am dying to upload pictures of my new dress and some other cute things I bought, but I can't seem to find my camera charger!

Now off to watch more Scrubs.

Who Ever Said Money Can't Buy Happiness...

...obviously didn't know where to shop! What started out as a day that would be devoted to picking out fabric and patterns, quickly turned into an adventure that cost me a few hundred dollars. I was dropped off at the fabric district street downtown, only to realize that all the stores are closed on Sunday! Too bad my ride had already left, didn't have a cell phone, and it was freezing outside! So I quickly found myself stranded in a sketchy part of the city all alone and with almost no street smarts. Luckily, a caught a bus and took it to another part of the city (which is even more sketchy, but still) and found, lo and behold, a mall! Ok. So it's the saddest ghetto excuse for a mall, but was a haven for a poor lost preppy in the big city on her own! Actually, there was only really one decent store in that whole mall that wasn't full of ugly cheap clothing and shoplifters...but I found it! Ah, Le Chateau! And if it wasn't for this whole twist of fate, I never would have discovered that this is the BEST place to shop for my work (co-op) clothes! Partly because they have small sizes that actually fit me and partly because they had everything that I've been looking for recently! I found the cutest little white shorts, pumps, belt, and pants! I also found some adorable dresses (I wish I had somewhere formal to wear them, to give me a real excuse to buy them) and what could possibly be the most perfect suit for me ever! Except it was pretty expensive for an impulse buy, so I'll have to think where I would actually wear it...and then save up!

Which reminds me of my lent/new years resolution to stop spending money on things I don't need. By the way, this little spree doesn't count. More like bringing coffee from home, instead of buying it everyday. Most of the time. Starting tomorrow. I swear!

You're So Vain You Probably Think This Post is About You

Time sure does sneak on up doesn't it? I just realized that I haven't posted in almost three weeks (shame shame shame)! I guess I kept saying to myself "Hmm, should probably update MPPP...no time now, later." and "How long since I posted? Just a few days, surely..." But now I'm ready to face the problem head on: I have been MIP (Missing In Polo) because I've been very busy. Firstly, the new semester has come and with it I am now in my co-op that I talked about before. It's great. I do a lot of seam-ripping, pinning, and hemming pants, but it's also fun just to be in the atmosphere. Did you know that aside from hemming, the most common alteration is letting-out a garment at Milli? You'd think that people would go one size up and then have it taken in (the easiest way for us sewers to alters), but evidently most of our customers are so vain that they buy things too small and as a result we have to spend hours seam-ripping, salvaging as much fabric as possible, and reconstructing skirts and jackets so that rich fat people can still call themselves a size 6. I suggested, being the practical person that I am, that we just sew in the label of a smaller size and be done with it, but Judith (my supervisor) told me point blankly that our customers are insane, and it is best not to ask questions, but just do it and bitch about it when they leave. Or, in some cases, the store does not carry a large enough size (which is pretty bad, seeing as we go all the way up to a generous size 14 or 16). In one case, suede panelling with ties had to be added to the side of some designer jeans because the lady was so enormous that she couldn't fit in them anymore. Pitty. It hurts me sometimes to rip apart a Valentino suit.

In other news, here is an interesting tidbit from work I've shared with a few people:

Last week a leather jacket came up to our floor. I walked over to it to check the price tag (which I do quite often at this store). Guess how much it cost? Keeping in mind it's Valentino.

$1000?

$3000?!

$4000???

Nope.

Try $14,000.

Mhmmm.

So this morning I had my interview for my co-op...I got it...of course (I know, I'm so humble)! The thing about this place is that it is INSANE. I am so excited. They have been in magazines and people come from all over to shop there and drop INSANE amounts of money (at least $100,000) a trip. This is going to be such a great opportunity I can't believe it! They have all designer clothing and accessories from such brands as Valentino and Moschino (ok, not exactly in my price range), but a girl can dream! They also have a group of European women who do alterations and sewing that I will get to work with and learn from. Imagine me sewing designer clothing *swoons*. This company even puts on professional fashion shows. The man who interviewed me told me it's not all glitz and glamor, and that the fashion business can be quite harrowing (used this word at least 5 times), but I am totally ready for it! I'll get real world experience of all the madness and drama that happens behind the scene.

In further news, I received my first Blog Award today from none other than Little Bow Prep! Thank you!

And I am going shopping and out to lunch with my dad this afternoon! Must get exciting new wardrobe to match exciting new apprenticeship! Can you believe that? Me and apprentice!

So, my computer has been contaminated by another Trojan...whatever that is...but I just had to post something! I have so much to say! So many blogs to read! So much fashion!

But before I get to that...I have some exciting news! Since the new semester is starting, I can tell you that I took co-op! For those of you that don't know, it's like finding an apprenticship. For the last two periods, I will be working at Milli Fashions for Women! This is very exciting for me, as I hope one day to be a fashion designer. I love sewing, am a talented artist (if I can toot my own horn), and am completely obsessed with fashion. This is the first time my school's co-op department has placed someone at Milli as well. I still need to go in for an interview (more on that later) but I have a good feeling about this! Milli Fashions is supposedly the most high-end boutique in the entire city! Almost everything in there is at least $1000. And they have sewing in the back, so hopefully I can polish up my skills while being in a place of such wonderful fashion goodness! And maybe I'll get a discount ;)

Girl: So yeah, the cops totally showed up and everything. It was totally crazy!

Me: Oh, was that at your New Years Eve party?

Girl: Mhmm.

Me: Yeah, I was going to go to a party, but all my plans fell through.

Girl (following up an earlier conversation): I'm sorry (not at all sorry), but I still can't see you going to a party. Except if it was like, a tea party.

*people were standing around listening this whole time, by the way*

Me: Um...

Girl: Yeah, like look at you with your pearls and everything. I can totally like see you as more of a sorority girl.

Me (sarcastically imitating her, because at this point I was getting a little miffed): Um, like, yeah...I totally love going to the Country Club for lunch banquets hahahaha!

Girl: Ehmagawd yeah I can totally see you doing that lolz!

Later, my friends, who had heard this whole conversation take place supported me and told me how rude they thought she was. But I don't mind all that much. This is practically a complement anyway. In fact, if I was a totally different person, I might have done something like this:

Me: Oh, HAHAHA you are SO FUNNY. Well. I'd rather be that then a pretentious little partying slut-faced-hoe-bag-who-brags-about-getting-drunk-and-being-taken-advantage-of.

But alas, I am not that person. And that would not be proper, would it? (What would Muffy say?!)

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself...seeing as it's not even Christmas yet, but it's never too early to start making those New Years Resolutions is it? No sir, it is not. In fact, the sooner the better for people like me. Procrastinators. So, I am going to be fully equipt in 2009 (wow can you believe it?) with my newly purchased desktop calender/planner. Procrastinator's SOS is the perfect gift for yourself or someone you know who is always stressed out or getting things done late (hello last-minute Christmas shoppers!). Each page lets you see the whole week ahead of you. I find this a useful tool, especially when you realize how soon everything is happening! It also has a weekly page on things that will help you out for that time of year. For example, tips on budgeting in February when you might start shopping for spring, organizing tips in January, and even how to lose those holiday love-handles in January. All this is done in a practical and entertaining set up. Each week also has a "To Do (or Not) List", "Ultimate Reprieve", and "Timewaster & Cheap Thrill" because, let's face it, once a procrastinator, always a procrastinator. But that certainly doesn't mean you can be molded into one of those envy-worthy people that always have it together. And I forgot to mention one of the best parts: it's nautical themed!

Preppy Pillows

A few weeks ago I decided to make a few new throw pillows for my daybed. OK. So I didn't actually decide per-say, since my fashion teacher takes marks on these things. But I did make one. And after a couple of trips to the fabric shops I had aquired a new piece of darling Amy Butler fabric (in pink and green, naturally), a coordinating piece in green cotton, two zippers, and some iron-on applique initial patches. But before I proceed, I must make a confession. Said Amy Butler fabric already resided in my fabric collection. In fact, a good amount of it. Enough to make a preppy little sumer dress. Enough to still be sitting there in it's pink and green goodness patiently waiting to be sewn into something fabulous. Which never happend, sadly. Because I didn't have the time. Then it was winter. Damned Canada. But, rest assured, I will make this dress. Oh yes I wil. But until then, I had to go buy more of this EXACT same fabric, because I don't want to risk not having enough for whe I eventually do make that dress. Makes sense, right? Of course it does. I have only made one pillow so far, but hopefully when school lets out for Christmas holidays in a week, I will have more than enough time.

Winter Formal and Nordstrom

Not quite sure if I have ever talked about Nordstrom before, but the fact is that it is just tops! Did I just say "tops"? Yes, yes I did. Never having been to the actual store before (residing in Ontario, Canada), I can only judge by what I see online, but they have the best dress selection in all of the internet shopping world as far as I can tell. Not to say that Bloomingdales or Neiman Marcus don't have a stunning array of dresses, but as someone who isn't willing to spend over $1000 on a dress for a high school dance, this is just as good. As you may notice, my choice for dresses for this year's Winter Formal (which I must tell you now, is a very important social event) is partial towards shorter, nonfussy, minidresses, and many have bows. The worst part of shopping for me, and perhaps you as well, is the choosing! If only I could get them all. Now for the famous My Preppy Pink Polo commentary:

Two-toned velvet dress with a soft bubble hem and a little black bow (so adorable!)

Love the colour and style of this dress: it seems sexy and sweet at the same time (nothing wrong with showing a little leg!) And, of course, the bow doesn't do it wrong either.
Not sure that the colour is me, but I do love the lace detailing and one shoulder strap complete with bow....seems like a present begging to be unwrapped!

A lovely shape and cut, this dress only makes me wonder if the flower print is too...something....however, it does grab attention with the contrast of silky black and salmon!

As I do not currently own a Little Black Dress (*gasp*) this might just be the perfect one for me. Looks as if it would be very flattering on my petite and a tad boyish frame.

Perfect length (nothing like a little leg!) perfect little bow, I've never been crazy about bubble hems, but, then again, I've never tried one on! This might be a perfect little package...especially so close to Christmas...

Quite cute two-toned dress with curve-hugging waist and cheeky little tie at the top. Not sure this would compliment my pale skin-tone, however it looks lovely on the model.

And as a result, I am in need of a new fall/winter coat! I am totally sick of my black puffy down filled bomber jacket I got two years ago and I am quite partial towards the new peacoat styles and double-breasted jackets. So I've been very busy, what with school, work, and trying to have some sort of a social life. You can let me have it. I've been a very bad blogger. But I promise that I have some extra good posts on fall fashion coming up in the near (hopefully) future so please don't desert me yet! One thing I have to say is that living as an only childin her mid-teens with her mother makes for a very poor Thanksgiving. I worked Sunday and today, and have not done anything remotely Thanksgiving-ish all weekend. My holidays are falling apart. "Have you had your turkey dinner yet?" (I am asked by people at work). "No." For one thing, my grandmother is hosting it this week (hopefully I will be able to attend), and another thing is that I don't eat turkey; being a vegetarian. Perhaps I will enjoy a nice tofurky? Perhaps not.

My latest sewing project! A Lilly inspired wrap-around skirt that I guess I made a little too late (seeing as it's fall now!). But I liked the the pattern (and who can resist a good cotton print?) and I wanted to try out this pattern. I had to alter it a bit because I wanted it shorter and luckily it's a wrap-around because I can NEVER find clothing patterns that fit a tiny size like me! What do you think? (And I know it looks sort of wrikley but I was so excited to show it off...and the pictures are really cruddy...

Ok. So you ALL MUST get this book. I purchased it at Indigo and I do not regret it at all. Written by Spade herself, this lovely and beautifully illistrated book talks about everything from how to take care of cashmere to how to have perfect posture! There is a large section all about the best colours (according to Kate) and how to combine them...guess what preppy combination is included! You also get an indepth look at some of her own personal favourites from her own closet and even comments from her beloved husband Andy. With everything from evening style, beach style, her love of accessories (she says they are the backbone to her wardrobe!), closet organization tops, and finding inspiration in everything, "Style" by Kate Spade is an absolute must have for anyone of any age or style. As the writers William Stunk, Jr., and E.B. White once wrote, "To achieve style, begin by affecting none." (And buy this book!)

House in the House!

This summer I watched the entire House MD series. I had watched it when it first started, but I seldom have time to follow TV shows unless I own or rip them. That aside, I got quite obsessed with the show. When you rent all the DVDs, you can easily click from one episode to the next and waste hours of your time lost in that dramatic medical world. Plus, you get really attached to the characters and deeply involved in the plot. I have been waiting FOR EVER for the new season to start...and guess what? I MISSED the premiere!!! I had yoga after school yesterday with my sister and went to her house afterward until my mother picked me up late that night. The only thing is that my Big Sis lives in a house with other university students, and they don't pay for cable. And you know what that means. No TV. I didn't even know that House was on last night. But we did discuss it. She thought it started next week. WRONGO! Ugh. I guess I'll have to try to find it online.

But I digress. In the spirit of the new House season, let's look back at a Preppy Profile of Dr. Cuddy from the house series. Sure, House may make constant jabs at her "low cut" tops, but I have to hand it to her, watching all the episodes I was quite able to understand and appreciate her style. Girly, professional, sexy, and, dare I say, a tad preppy?

Firstly, my recent trip to Sherway Gardens wasn't a complete waste. I did end up buying two things (although they ended up being from the second store I went into (the first was Holt Renfrew). What I did buy was this:

Two little headbands like these (because for some reason the website doesn't have an actual picture of my cute little bands). Except they were metallic purple and black with cute little bows on them... Blair Waldorf eat your heart out! *

And this adorable tweed purple bag (which also has pink and turquoise/silver sewn into it). I have decided that my fall wardrobe will also include rich colours like berries, purple, turquoise and, of course, pink.

I actually have a (sort of) funny story about this whole purple obsession of mine. OK. So what I was wearing that day was: my grey and purple argyle fitted/cropped cami, lavender short-sleeve button up, jeans, and my new mocs (which I must post!). I picked up this bag and thought it was the most adorable and perfect cozy-fallish-wintery bag ever. But I didn't buy it. Three or four hours later we made it back to the store and that's when I purchased it and the headbands. My father made a remark about how well it matched my current outfit and I beamed and said: "Purple is hot this season!". Later that evening...I was at Chapters (sipping a tall vanilla latte) and picking out a yoga mat (which, surprisingly enough, Chapters does have.). There were no pink and green ones, so I chose the purple one. I felt a bit of a fool because now I was carrying my new purple bag and buying this. When I went to the cashier, she said "Purple...wow that goes with your outfit!" or something to that effect and I replied, "Thanks...". The moral of the story is: If you have a theme to your outfit (no matter how adorable), be prepared for people to notice!

Secondly, I just finished my shift at Timmies. I drank a coffee there. I hadn't had much caffeine for months, due to the fact that I was sick in the hospital. Then, I bought a bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper for the short walk home. More caffeine. Which reminds me; does anyone know what happened to Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper? It was amazing! But I digress. All in all, that is why I now have the shakes. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

So they say, but you won't gossip about me will you? Unless it's something truly juicy. But the real gossip I have is the amazing Gossip Girl fashion! I don't watch this show on account of me always forgetting or being too busy to catch a TV show every week at a certain time. And now I can't start watching it because this is one of those shows that you have to follow the whole time because there is a shocking plot twist in every episode. I will, however, buy or at least rent the first season when it comes out (by the way does anyone know when that is?). But for now I am admiring the cute wardrobe from pictures I found on the web and other people's blogs. I am also taking inspiration from them and plan to model my fall wardrobe after some of the cuteness that is Blair, Serena, and Jenny's outfits!

It is also where I am right now, but only for a few more hours. I got to go home for Sunday and Monday, but back to the hospital tonight again. It was nice to get out for a while though and I went shopping with my mother (she needed a ton of new clothes and I'm always for shopping). As my mother proclaims about herself "I hate shopping!", though she can spend more time in one store than I can spend reading blogs. For someone who detests shopping, she sure can shop. But she really did need a few new things. Her wardrobe is nothing to talk about, but now it is improved slightly with my help. I only bought a few things, seeing as I am out of work for a while (aren't you proud of me?!).

American Eagle Tie-Front Blouse I bought a little while ago but never talked about (planning on doing a post on this trend later) Love this I button it up all the way and tie it in a big bow: so cute tucked into jeans or with a white skirt and tights (very Blair Waldorf)

Then I also bought a beige coloured button-up blouse with feminine details and a pink and beige argyle shrunken vest from Costa Blanca (they don't have pictures). I know. I have a real problem. An argyle addiction if you will. This is the second argyle sweater I have bought from Costa Blanca (a grey and purple one and a lavender blouse to go under). Not to mention the mini sweater dress I bought from there too (also purple and burgendy). And the pink and purple argyle sweater vest I bought from Esprit (which now I think of it I have never actually worn in public since I saw a teacher at my school wearing it). And my yellow polo with argyle pattern on chest from Tommy Hilfiger. Plus all my argyle socks (but those don't count, do they?). Yes. A real problem. Is there an argyle-aholics annonymous?

On reflection, I realized that nearly everything I bought has buttons and stripes. Must be a phase. But these things never go out of style do they? No, as the saleslady at Costa assured me, my argyle addiction is ok too because this is a classic pattern. Just a little worried that people will think I wear the same thing (they are all kind of purple or pink) all the time.

ME ME MIA: Prep in Hospital!

In case you were wondering, the MIA stands for Missing In Action. I am very ashamed to be a blogger right now and am a sorry excuse, I know! The trouble is I haven't been on the internet in WEEKS! That's right, weeks. First, my computer crashed and was taken away for a week to be fixed. Then, when we got it back it no longer had internet. So that's another two weeks of no internet at my place. Now the saddest news of all...I am in hospital and have been for almost two weeks now. It's a very private matter and I won't go into it, but this is just something I am dealing with and have been for years in my life. Looks like I'll be here for a while, but this is not my first hospital stay let's just say. The hospital has no internet in the ward, so my laptop is quite useless. I am writing this from the student library which has internet access! I miss reading all of your blogs and of course the pleasures of surfing the web for cute Lilly and shopping online (and shopping in general!). I'll be on a weekend home stay this long weekend so I'll hopefully have time to catch up with all the blogs! Until then, farewell preppy bloggers!

Spam and the Silly

So incase anyone at all has been wondering where I disapeared to, my computer totally crashed. Some viruses completely took over to the point where it was inpossible to open the internet. My mother took our computer to her brother's house who is good with computers and apparently we had hundreds of bugs! Turns out website that I had been visiting (and even on in my favourites!) had been giving us cookies which is why we had been getting popups. What was the most shocking is that he found one website in my favourites was actually a pornography site! I am really disturbed and will definetly have to be more careful. He didn't remember the name of the site, but it was girly and had the work "designer" in it...which leads me to beleive that it may have been the website www.designhergals.com, but I cannot be sure. I guess I was too naive. Now my mother won't let me use her computer to scour through all the fashion sites so I'll have to do it on my laptop (which is realllllly realllly slow, and the internet connection hasn't been working). Needless to say, this sucks. Fashion is my passion and I LOVE to shop online and work Polyvore and Blogger and visit stores online, but now I don't really trust them. Has anyone else had any problems with viruses and popups? What websites are safe and how do we know that they aren't just a fake website cover that is actually spamming you and pretending to be respectable while it is actually a secret nasty site? Ughh. I don't understand all these sickos who waste time making viruses just to hurt other people they don't even know. They just make me feel uncomfortable and silly.

On a cheerier note (if that is infact a word), this is my 50th post on this blog! Happy 50 everyone and be safe in your surfing!

Desperately Seeking Summer

Yay I'm back! OK, so I really didn't go anywhere I've just been too bored and lazy to post anything. Which is strange, because you'd think that if I was so bored I would have wanted to do something. All I've really been doing is taking advantage of my first few days off of school (yes, it's that time again: summer vacation!) by sleeping, waking up, eating, then sleeping again until about noon. I know this seems very sloth-like, but hey, I deserve it don't I for working so hard all year? Don't I? Yes, of course I do. After sleeping so long today that I'm surprised I didn't get bedsores, I felt guilty and decided to do some house cleaning. I'm even doing a load of laundry (don't tell my mom...I'm still waiting to see how it all turns out). Have you ever noticed that no matter how lazy you are, starting to do some serious cleaning around your home gets kind of addictive and is even energizing? Like, once you get going, it's easier and you just keep on going and going until you feel weak and light-headed and have to stop to have a toasted bagel with cream cheese and a glass of cool juice. But I digress. I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer so far and enjoying the hot-hot weather (even if your way of enjoying it is staying inside blasting the air-conditioning like me)!

I have been a big fan of Reese Witherspoon since I first saw the movie Legally Blonde. Admit it, you've seen the movie and love it too. But reesently (haha typo intended) I have seen and admired her style as well as her talent on camera. This outfit (above; blue oxford, white trousers and blue sash belt) is fresh, crisp, and classic. The kind of look that will never go out of style because no one wants it to. Of course, there is her critically acclaimed and all around ah-dorable yellow dress she wore a while back while sporting her tres popular bangs and stunning red carpet pose (the whole legs crossing thing is always a good choice). My New Favourite Summer Bag! Madras Tommy Hilfiger with leather and canvas handles and even a cute little anchor charm! The only thing is I found a teensy little spot on the bag! It looks like chocolate or something...don't you just HATE that? It drives me crazy. Does anyone have any tips for getting stains out of a cloth bag without putting it in the washing machine and ruining it?

So I was looking for our iron after the move, and all I found was the board. Well, that's not much use. Then it occured to me...the answer was right next to me! My hair straightener! I used to have a big gap between by front teeth when I was little. I haven't thought about it for a long time but it suddenly occured to me now while I was browsing on Gap.com. I realize now that it was a good thing I did, or my teeth would probably be a lot more crooked than they are right now. I have never had braces, and I probably never will thanks to that gap. Likewise, I will probably never have a reason not to part with my money thanks to The Gap. As I said in my previous post, I was sadly limited for time in all stores, but I had to help myself a little by going on the website after returning from my shopping trip. I think I have problems. Do you ever do this? I have this habit of going to a mall, going through the store, coming home, looking through the website, then going back to the store within two weeks at the most and purchasing some things. This is the process that is me. I guess it's a good thing though, because as anyone who has ever been shopping with me can tell you, I take an obsene amount of time sifting through and trying on everything in a store I like, then humming and hawing over each peice before finally making a purchase. I call this Clothing Commitment Personality Disorder or CCPD. And now, I am trying to make plans with friends to go to the mall again tomorrow...but this will be a closer and crappier mall. Still, that would be three days straight of shopping, if you don't count my few purchases during the week. Wow. I really do have problems.

I realize I'm rambling on a bit here. My real point was to show you my Gap picks. I feel the need to tell you first though that the website doesn't have nearly enough selection as the store I was in (it might need to be updated?) and the pictures really don't do justice to the cuteness of the clothing. Enjoy :)

This is the best mall in Ontario. Seriously. On my outing there today I realized the only shame was the little amount of time I was aloud there. It was late in the day, and I could probably have spent 24 hours shopping there (or more, until I collapsed from exhaustion). And the only reason I didn't buy much more than I did, is the fact that I am too damn small to fit into half the things I like, and have only half the amount of money I would like to have. Factor in my dad being there to make me feel intensly guilty to spend excessive amounts of money, it's no wonder that I walked out with only one shopping bag. However, I saw many many cute and preppy things that I wish were at my local mall! For instance, I made my first ever trip to Talbots! Although I saw some cute belts and adorable polo dresses, unfortuanately, thanks to factor one, there is no way I could fit into any of their clothes. To anyone who can though, and is fortunate enough to have enough time to shop unlike me, I would suggest these:

Another place I drooled over was Lacoste. I prefer the online Lacoste to the store though, because I find it less intimidating. But that's another post for another day. Also love the large Gap, Banana Republic, Esprit, Jones New York (but again, sizing was an issue here), Lululemon, Tommy Hilfiger, and great shoe shopping! What I did buy this weekend (so far, anyway) is a Tommy pink and green madras halter top, a black and white gingham babydoll type top from Dynamite, and a really cute seersucker-type striped grey and white oxford dress. I'll have to post pictures later though due to the fact that these stores don't have adequate websites.

I seem to get myself into these little mis-adventures when I go do things on my own. For example, NEVER add water to melted chocolate when you are making brownies because it WILL make it go all hard and lumpy instantly and your brownies will turn out all fluffy and dry instead of dense and moist. I don't know why this is, it seems to be some strange scientific chemical reaction with the fat and water, but addig this step to baking is fatal...for the brownies I mean.

When I was little, I was a total tomboy. I wasn't into Barbie like the other girls in my class and would cry and throw a fit when my mother tried to get me into a dress to go to a wedding. I absolutely hated the way wearing a dress felt with my legs. In fact, my mom still teases me about it because I am the biggest girly-girl ever now with all the pink I wear! Guess I'm making up for all the years lost!

I have a low caffeine tolerancy. When I first started drinking coffee, I bought it from the cafeteria after lunch. I would then proceed to go completely bonkers to the point at which other people were noticing the change in me. I would get the shakes, talk really really fast, act hyperactive, and even my lips started to vibrate uncontrollably. Luckily, since then I have grown somewhat immune to the effects of caffeine and I can barely feel it...just have to be carefull not to drink it on an empty stomach!

Every fish I have ever owned has died in under two weeks. My first fish only lasted about 2 days. Fortunately, the pet store has a policy in which if you fish dies within a week of bringing it home, you can come back and get a free fish. Well, I liked the beta fish, so I got a second one after Beta fish number one (Juicy) died, thinking it was just a fluke. It turns out, however, that I have some sort of fish curse. The next one lasted about 4 days I think. Poor little guy was found floating on the top of his tank with his glassy eyes open. Never one to give up quickly, I stuck Gucci into a zip-lock bag and stuck him in the fridge so I could bring him back for another. I scrubbed down the tank and let my third fish in. I researched a ton before hand and did everything right. I thought this one would make it! A week later, still alive! But of course shortly after that he (I don't even remember his name...some sort of designer handbag?) made the journey to fishy heaven. There. Now you know. Don't hate me for it!

I like to eat most of my food cold. If I made something the night before, I most look forward to eating the leftovers the next day straight from the fridge without heating it up. My favourites to eat cold are pizza (classic), vegetable lasagna, pasta, perogies, mashed potato, soy chicken, and tofu stir-fry (obviously, I don't eat meat).

As much as I would love to be good at skiing, it secretly terrifies me. I had a very bad skiing experience in grade seven when I was on my first skiing trip with school. They started us off with a skill test to see which hills we could go on. I weaved through the obsticles and made this amazing stop in front of the instructer. Of course, it was completely accidental but I got my sticker. I still couldn't go on the red labled hills. Later on, there was a re-test to try to get the red sticker. A bunch of skiers and myself followed the lady onto a very steep hill. I was kind of freaking out at the sheer steepness of it and I was having trouble controlling my turns and stopping. I feel the need to tell you right now that I was very very small back then and it might have been that I was too light or something. Anyway, I kept wiping out due to the fact that I couldn't stop my skis no matter how much I angled them inward. Soon enough, I got seperated from the group on a big hill and narrowly avoided crashing into a tree. So there I was. Stuck in a snow bank all alone with no way of getting down the hill on my own. Fortunately, one of my friends came down the hill and spotted me. She laughed when I told her my story and helped me down the hill to safety. Needless to say, I spent the rest of the day on the Bunny Hill.

When I was younger, my room had this whole purple, blue and yellow theme. Light blue carpeting, purple walls, turquoise and pink border, and yellow, blue, purple daisy bedding (I was obsessed with daisy's). But then on a shopping trip with my best friends I bought a pink and orange area rug...you can tell I was always the serious shopper! But that didn't really go weel with the blue carpeting. Then, we moved to where I live now and I have a sort of pink and orange theme going on. And this won't do. I have been in search of the perfect preppy bedding now, since I have a new opportunity to repaint my room (it being a dull whitish colour) and a part-time job after school and on weekends to help pay for it! So, without futher todo...I give you: CUTE PREPPY BEDDING! OH, AND FYI MY BED IS A WHITE METAL DAYBED

So I went to my local Tommy Hilfiger (my new fave store!) and here is what I bought...ok, so what my dad bought for me. But in my defense, I totally offered to pay and since I got my first two pay cheques from my part-time job (serving coffee!) I could have. There were so many cute things there it took me forever to decided! In fact, my dad said that many people had come in, bought something, and left by the time I finally got out of the change room. But can you blame me? This is one of the only legit preppy stores around where I live. I might be going back soon though because there were some really really cute pieces...like these pink and green madras burmuda shorts and matching skirt and dress. Not to mention all the argyle sweaters, polos, oxfords, and terry summer dresses! I am seriously going to buy that store out! I wish I could post pictures of the other things that I am considering buying, but they aren't on the website (I mentioned my reasoning on this issue in an earlier post I believe) so I can only show pics that I took of the things I actually brought home. The only thing is that I am so freaking small that I barely fit into the XS and size 0 is still big on me. Maybe I shrink them though? But I digress. What do you think of my finds?

René LACOSTE entered the legend of tennis when he and his team-mates "The Musketeers", stole the Davis Cup away from the Americans for the first time, in 1927. Not forgetting his 3 French Open victories (1925, 1927 and the ROLAND-GARROS stadium in 1929), his two victories in Great Britain (WIMBLEDON 1925 and 1928) and two U.S. OPEN titles at Forest Hills (1926 and 1927).
René LACOSTE was born in France on 2nd July 1904 and died on 12th October 1996. The true story of the "Crocodile" begins in 1927. René LACOSTE liked to recount how his nickname became an emblem recognized throughout the world.
"I was nicknamed "the Alligator" by the American press, after I made a bet with the Captain of the French Davis Cup Team concerning a suitcase made from alligator skin. He promised to buy it for me if I won a very important match for our team.The public must have been fond of this nickname which conveyed the tenacity I displayed on the tennis courts, never letting go of my prey!"
"So my friend Robert GEORGE drew a 'crocodile' which I then had embroidered on the blazer I wore on the courts. An attentive spectator at René LACOSTE's Davis Cup matches was the winner of the BRITISH Womens golf title, Mademoiselle Simone THION de la CHAUME, who soon became his wife and constant support.
In 1933, René LACOSTE and André GILLIER, the owner and President of the largest French knitwear manufacturing firm of that time, set up a company to manufacture the logo-embroidered shirt. The champion had designed this for his own use on the tennis court, as well as a number of other shirts for tennis, golf and sailing - as can be seen in the first catalogue, produced in 1933.
To the best of our knowledge, this was the first time that a brand name appeared on the outside of an article of clothing - an idea which has since become extremely successful.
This shirt revolutionized mens sportswear and replaced the woven fabric, long-sleeved, starched classic shirts.The first LACOSTE shirt was white, slightly shorter than its counterparts, had a ribbed collar, short sleeves with ribbed bands and was made of a light knitted fabric called "Jersey petit piqué".

But the sad thing is...I have none. There. You know my deep dark secret. Infact, since I don't have my own credit card (*ahem* since I'm still in highschool...don't judge) I have never ordered anything online myself. Although now that I have my own part-time job, I think that I could maybe get my dad to order me things online since I have the money to pay him back now. He did order me these adorable bunny slippers from http://www.onlyslippers.com/ for Christmas. And now maybe I can finally get some cute new stuff from J.Crew and all those awesome preppy sites! Spring Style Week: Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger is seriously my favourite store this season! Although strangly enough the store in my local mall doesn't have any of these items, they have equally or even cuter stuff...I think it's because the one I shop at is kind of like an outlet, because the prices on the back always show two numbers: the "original retail" and the "new" price. But anyway the ones on Tommy's website are still ah-dorable! I plan on buying a bag very similar to the one here from the store in my mall as well as some polos and more, but I'll take pictures of them myself and do a post when I actually go shopping! This season, Tommy has out some lovely shirt-dresses in oxford and polo style. They also have plenty of cute argyle and nautical cardigans in delicious styles! And if you're plannin on some dressier occasions in your future, there are also luxurious silky dot-printed dresses and blouses for your enjoyment....so enjoy!

I've been really tired lately but I still want to do at least 7 days of store posts. Banana Republic I have noticed this season is a lot more nautical than preppy...but I adore their seersucker summer suits! I already have a seersucker blazer just like this one though (in a previous post) so I'm really disappointed that I didn't see this one or the Guess ones sooner because they look more fitted. You see, I bought my blazer from Old Navy and it's cute, but I would like it to be a little more structured and I couldn't buy the shorts or skirt because I'm so petite. Oh well maybe I'll buy a different set anyway and I can give mine away or something. ANYWAY. Here are some cute Banana Republic pieces!
